SUBMITTED PHOTO Perry Meridian High School’s 1997 semistate finalist basketball team will be honored before Thursday’s girls varsity game against Franklin – about 7 p.m. The team went 26-1, losing only to Martinsville 65-52 in the finals of the Southport Semistate. Many felt the team was destined for a state title behind the play of Katie Douglas, who went on to lead Purdue to the NCAA championship in 1999 and was a Kodak All-American in 2000 and ’01 before playing for the Indiana Fever and other teams in the WNBA. The team featured (front, from left) Natalie Sponsel, Andrea Nordholt, Amanda Vice, Latasha Austin, Alissa Nordholt, Lindsay Poe; (back) Charliss Ridley, Erin Covert, Holly Turk, Douglas, Amy Frey and Kylah Quinn.
