Farmers Market Opens
The Southport Farmers Market, 2810 E. Southport is opening May 16. Vendors will sell produce, eggs, baked goods, pet treats, toffee, jams, jellies, jewelry, plants and coffee from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesdays, 3-6:30 p.m. Thursdays.
Auction Items Needed
In celebration of its fifth anniversary, Humble Impressions, a thrift store at 3530 S. Keystone Ave., is accepting donations for the silent auction that it’s holding Saturday, June 24, for Gleaners Food Bank. The Lions Club of Southport will offer free and quick computerized eye screenings for 1- to 6-year-olds from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday- Thursday, May 16-18, at Southport Library, 2630 E. Stop 11 Road.
Recognition Dinner for Bruce Scifres
A dinner to celebrate Bruce Scifres’ retirement as football coach at Roncalli and the start of his new career as executive director of the Catholic Youth Organization will be held from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, at Primo Banquet & Conference Center, 2601 National Ave. Scifres, whose record was 248-88, won seven state championships and seven semistate, 10 regional and 12 sectional titles. Baxter YMCA, 7900 Shelby St., will host its annual spring health fair for seniors from 9 a.m.-noon Friday, May 19. Benefit for Families of Military Members
Helping Hands For Freedom and Craft + Cork, 3115 Meridian Park, Suite G, Greenwood, will host a benefit from 6-9 p.m. Friday for families of fallen, wounded and deployed military personnel. Paint With the Platoon will feature a wine and canvas event with participants painting bar glass sets. The cost is $45, which includes the six-glass set.
